Youth Conference 2009

This year's Youth Conference took place on Friday & Saturday, May 29 & 30, at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD (Frederick County). Brother J Brown and Sister Li-Fang Tsai were this year's chaperones who drove the youth to the college. The youth who attended were Alvin Ye, Simon Liu, Joshua Tsai, Humphrey Huang, Pearl Zhang, Melinda Tsai, and Emerald Shen. On Friday night, they enjoyed a dance and devotional. Saturday was filled games and activities, which were supposed to support the Theme, "One For All and All For One." Each participant received a nice tee shirt with the Youth Conference Theme. At the end fo the conference, they held the traditional testimony meeting. I understand that all 7 of our youth bore their testimonies. We are proud of all of our youth and what they stand for.

Baby boy for Theodores!

Jess Theodore had to miss the Youth Car Wash, but for a very good reason. That morning, Jess reports that Oliver Jess Theodore was born on May 23rd at 6:23 a.m., weighing in at 7 lbs, 2 oz and measuring 20 inches long. He was 13 days early, which was their little Memorial Day Weekend surprise. Congratulations to Jess and Ashley on their cute addition to their family.

Youth Car Wash

On Saturday, May 23, the Youth held a car wash at the Potomac Chapel from 10am to 4pm. 5 young men and 7 leaders helped 5 young women wash about 40 cars on the beautiful day. This photo was taken in front of Sister Lazarev's car.

Young Single Adult Activity

On Friday, May 15, at the home of Adam and Sophy Fugal, the young adults held a Young Single Adult activity. About 9 young single adults, including 3 investigators, plus the elders and Brother Fugal were in attendance. At a nearby school, they played 3 short innings of wiffle ball and a version of Sharks and Minnows. Afterwards, they enjoyed pizza together and played other games indoors. We thank the Fugals for their hospitality and support of this activity. Thank you!

Relief Society Service Project with Kentlands Ward

On Wednesday, April 29, the Kentlands Ward Relief Society sisters invited our branch Relief Society sisters to participate in a service project at the chapel. That night about 35 sisters, including 6 of our branch sisters, sewed 75 canvas bags to hang by the bedside of the children with terminal or serious diseases at The Children's Inn at NIH.

The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health is a residential "place like home" for sick children and their families. Children come from across the country and around the world to stay together with their families in The Inn’s healing environment while receiving groundbreaking medical treatments at the NIH, the world’s leading biomedical research center. While the NIH takes care of the child’s medical needs, The Inn tends to the child’s heart, soul and spirit. (From the web site for The Children's Inn at NIH)

In addition to the canvas bags, the sisters were busy that night packing magazines, bookmarks, and pencils for the children. They also made specially decorated cupcakes. All of the goodies were delivered to The Children's Inn at NIH the next day. We thank the Kentlands Ward for their invitation of our sisters to this meaningful event and look forward to future Relief Society activities with their ward.

Young Celebrity on TV

Our own Jelica Pascual recently entered into a talent contest on TV in Taiwan. She was confident in her conversation with the emcees and sang two beautiful songs. Furthermore, she was very bold in sharing about her church and about God. You can watch them at:
