Meeting Times and Places

The Chinese Branch has had two meeting places, the Potomac Chapel and the Kentlands Chapel. In 2001, the Potomac Chapel came under renovation, so all three units in the Potomac Chapel had to move out temporarily. The Potomac Ward and the Chinese Branch moved to the Kentlands Chapel. In 2002, the decision was made for the Branch to stay permanently in the Kentlands Chapel for two reasons. First, the locus of members’ homes was gradually moving northward in the county. Second, it was more feasible to control times and activities in a chapel with two units than in one with three units. Meeting times and places are shown below.

In 2015, the decision was made to merge the Youth and Primary classes (formerly the second and third hour) with the Kentlands Ward in order to provide a better experience for the children. As a result, the Sunday School was held at the same time as the Kentlands Ward (10:20am to 12:00pm), but our Sacrament Meeting was held separately immediately afterwards beginning at 12:10pm.

After the October 2018 announcement at General Conference, the meetings were adjusted again to conform to the two-hour church block. So, starting in January 2019, Sunday School was held at the same time as the Kentlands Ward (10:40am to 11:30am), and our Sacrament Meeting was held separately immediately afterwards beginning at 11:40am.

In September 2019, due to a mold infestation in the basement of the Kentlands Chapel, all meetings and activities were moved temporarily to the Potomac Chapel. During this time, Sunday School was held at the same time as the Kentlands Ward (2:10pm to 3:00pm), and Sacrament Meeting commenced at 3:10pm. In March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic did not allow us to meet physically in the chapels and required us to meet virtually via Zoom. Without the actual Sacrament ordinance, the Branch devotionals were held each Sunday online from 10:30am to 11:00am. On August 16, 2020, the first in-person Sacrament Meeting returned back to the Kentlands Chapel and took place every other week until November 1, 2020.

Phase 2 return to in-person meetings occurred on November 1, 2020, with Sacrament meeting in-person from 9:00am to 9:35am, virtual Elders Quorum meeting at 11:15am, and virtual other meetings (Sunday School, Relief Society, youth, Primary) at 10:30am. Then on July 11, 2021, all meetings were in-person and virtual, with Sacrament meeting from 9am to 10am and 2nd hour meetings from 10:10am to 11am.
