Farewell Fireside for David Chang

On the last day of 2016, on a cold winter's night, about 35 family and friends gathered at the Kentlands Chapel to say farewell to David Chang. David will be leaving for Utah to attend BYU next semester to study Computer Engineering. After dinner, Sister Abbey Zhao shared David's story: starting with his baptism, his dissociation with her and Da and the church; his bike accident and staying in the hospital for a few months; the Branch fasting and praying for David; and David's change of mind to apply for and getting accepted to BYU. Most impressive was David's change of heart. We wish David good luck in his studies at his new university. And happy new year!

Christmas Party

今年的聖誕晚會當天早上下了冰雨以致路面情況不佳。但很幸運地，到了傍晚晚會要開始的時候，天氣已經暖起來了，路上的冰也融化的不少。

與往年一樣，肯特蘭支會已經將教堂裡的文化廳用花圈，常綠的松柏枝葉，和聖誕樹布置裝飾的美輪美奐。文化廳也設置了一個舞台。我們雖然早到了，但男女青年和孩子們已經在排演晚會的表演，而且桌椅也已經擺設完畢。

今年是黃會長當主持人。在他歡迎大家來參加晚會後，由Joseph Cunningham弟兄做開會禱告揭開晚會的序幕。晚餐後賴長老和趙松勝弟兄首先演奏小提琴，接著由趙松昌和Jacob楊弟兄吹奏薩克斯風。音樂節目後是男女青年和孩子們演出的耶穌誕生的故事。一位從北極來的朋友出現在晚會的末段，大家都非常高興地與聖誕老人一起合照。雖然今年來參加聖誕晚會的弟兄姊妹和朋友們較往年少(少於100人)，但大家能相聚一堂，享受晚會的節目，在那晚感受到聖誕的精神。


This year, our Christmas party was preceded by an ice storm and a precarious driving scenario. Luckily on the day of the event, the weather started to warm up, and the roads started to melt.

Inside the cultural hall, the Kentlands Ward had left their beautiful decorations, displayed with wreaths, streamers of evergreen, and Christmas trees. They also left the risers set up as a small stage. When we arrived, the children were already rehearsing their play, and the tables were set up with chairs.

After President Huang, the emcee, welcomed the guests, Joseph Cunningham offered the invocation, and the party commenced. Elder Lyman and Clayton Zhao played "The First Noel" on the violins. They were followed Brennan Zhao and Jacob Yang playing "The Carol of the Bells" on the saxophones. The Primary children and the youth performed the nativity story, narrated by President Huang. Finally, our special guest from the North Pole arrived to the delight of children, young and old. They all took photos with Santa. Although the attendance was smaller than usual (less than 100), the Christmas spirit was felt throughout the evening, as we mingled with new and old friends and enjoyed the meaningful program.

2016-11-13 常鳳艷姐妹的洗禮會 Baptism of Ruth Feng Yan Chang

常鳳艷姐妹在11/13號受洗加入中文分會的大家庭。蔡弟兄首先分享洗禮的重要，並且邀請傳教士用一個小柵門和小階梯做實務教學，象徵洗禮是跟隨耶穌基督的第一步，接著就需要透過聖靈的恩賜和持守到底繼續努力往上爬，獲得天父更多更多的祝福。

賴長老接著為常姐妹洗禮，因為太緊張了，做了兩次才正確完成，不過一切都順利完成了！

之後Sister Abbey Zhao分享聖靈恩賜和遵守誡命的重要，小沈姐妹則代表慈助會誠摯歡迎常姐妹的加入。楊長老和Brother Richard Huang 分享了當我受洗的小提琴鋼琴曲目，最後由趙弟兄代表分會會長團致歡迎詞，並驚喜的透過FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, 和 Skype 邀請Elder Dai (Daines), Elder Kerby和Sister Liou 跟Ruth 表達他們的愛和恭喜而圓滿落幕。

Sister Chang Feng Yen was baptized on 11/13/16 at 1:00pm and joined the branch family. Brother Tsai, being the first speaker, shared the importance of the baptism and invited missionaries to use a small gate and stair to do object lesson, symbolize that baptism is the first step of following Jesus Christ, and later on to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and endure to the end to keeping climbing up, to receive more and more blessing from Heavenly Father.

And the Elder Lyman performed the baptism, because he was very nervous, he had to do it twice, but it was nice and successfully done.

After the baptism Sister Abbey Zhao shared the importance of the gift of the Holy Ghost and keeping the commandments. Sister Meili Shen represent the relief society to welcome Sister Chang to join to the branch. Richard and Elder Yang performed when I am baptized in violin and piano. At the end, Brother Zhao represent the Branch Presidency to welcome Sister Chang, and invited former missionaries Elder Dai (Daines), Elder Kerby, and Sister Liou to surprise Sister Chang via FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, and Skype. The missionaries expressed their love and how they proud of her to bring and wonderful

and warm ending to the baptism.
