2009-07-25 Young Women's Girls Camp Fireside
On Saturday evening, July 25, a special fireside was held at the Tsai home to share the young women's Girls Camp experience with their parents. At 5pm, the young women gathered to create the cuisine they enjoyed at camp, namely enchiladas, salad, and brownies. After savoring the delicious food, the young women favored us with a special program. They presented the branch flag and virtue, and Jessica introduced the camp theme, "What's Your Story?" Then they sang "If the Savior Stood Beside Me." One by one, from oldest to youngest, they shared a story from camp and its significance in their lives. At the end, root beer floats were served.
2009-07-23 Youth Pioneer Day BBQ
On July 23, the Young Men and Young Women had a BBQ activity at the Zhao family's house in the evening. Despite the intermittent heavy rain downpour, the youth were blessed with having the BBQ in between two storms. Before eating, everyone engaged in a contest of husking corn. The two teams, one composed of all young women and the other were young men and Brother and Sister Tsai, ended up in a tie. J and his sister, Marisa, barbecued most of the delicious barbecue chicken, zucchini, and corn. Sister Tsai baked a delectable peach cobbler. We also enjoyed eating watermelon, cookies, and ice cream. After dinner, J led everyone to the baseball field to play some games. The first game was called Mingle, a game like unto Musical Chairs where people gather in groups when the caller calls out a number and the odd people are out. It was pretty fun. Unfortunately, it started pouring during the first game. Everyone ran inside. Afterward everyone shared their testimony of how they or their family are first generation pioneers in the church. We thank the Zhao's for their home and the youth leaders for carrying out this wonderful activity. Happy Pioneer's Day!

Baby girl for the Fugal Family
Dear all,
We are happy to announce the birth of Joanna Youxin Fugal at 4:46A.M. today (7-11-2009). She was 8 lbs 4 oz and 21" long. Everything went very smoothly, hardly any pain and almost no difficulty getting the baby out. Sophy pushed and huala she came out screaming. The doctor didn't have to pat Joanna or anything, she cried on her own.
You'll just have to trust us that she's beautiful and looks a little like both me and Sophy (I think more like Sophy but she says more like me). We brought a camera and this laptop but no way to transfer pictures onto the laptop. (Pictures to follow)

Youth Baptisms for the Dead
On Thursday night, July 9, at the Washington DC Temple Baptistry, our branch participated in baptisms for the dead. The lucky youth who attended were Emerald Shen, Melinda Tsai, Joshua Tsai, Pearl Zhang, Kristy Tung, Jonathan Tsai, and Jessica Tsai. Assisting with me in the ordinances were J Brown, his brother Ben, his cousin Mark, Charles Su, Andrew Belnap, Da Zhao, and Patrick Shen. Sisters Tsai and Shen also came to assist the young women. Sister Fox, a matron, gave us an excellent welcome and inspirational message to follow the Spirit.

Girls Camp 2009
This year with cool weather and a sprinkling or rain, the young women enjoyed another "best year of Girls Camp" ever. Basking in the fun this year were Ada & Melinda who participated in the High Adventure canoe and hiking trip, Kristy, Pearl, Ya-chih, Melinda, Alice, and Emerald. Jessica was the branch camp director, and Sister Tsai was the assistant director. This year's theme was "What's Your Story?" The young women above proudly display their Pocahontas banner. Besides the exciting windshield cracking, the young women enjoyed swimming, crafts, night hiking, campfire building, and learning nature skills. They also strengthened their testimonies and created more friendships during the week.
