Elders Quorum Brunch

On the morning of Labor Day, September 6, from 10am to noon, the Elders Quorum brethren found occasion to get together for a morning of doing guy stuff.  While we waited for the waffles to be cooked, a few people engaged in some competitive matches of badminton.  Besides waffles, the brunch included some sumptuous sausage, fresh fruit, and lots of juice.  Our Elders Quorum President shared with us a short spiritual message about the prophet Joseph Smith and the support he received from his father and his brother, Hyrum.  Then we enjoyed games of table tennis, badminton, and basketball.  About ten brethren, including the full-time missionaries, attended this first ever Labor Day activity.  It was definitely a successful guys' morning out.

Relief Society Service Activity

On Sunday afternoon, August 29, the Relief Society sisters paid a visit to the senior citizens in the Wilson Center of Asbury Village.  The Primary children sang two songs.  Melinda Tsai played a song on the flute, accompanied by Emerald Shen and assisted by Michelle Chen.  Joshua Tsai played a solo on the piano.  Sister Tsai demonstrated an ancient empress fashion.  Finally, hand warmers were given to each senior citizen who attended.  This program was repeated twice.  In total, we visited about 40 seniors.

Finale of First Marriage Relations Classes

On July 12 at the Tsai home, the first ever Marriage Relations Class was taught by Steve and Betty Anderson. That evening, six couples started a journey of learning important principles and practices in strengthening our marriages as well as our faith and testimony. Rotating around different members' homes, a total of six classes constituted the course. The final lesson was presented at the chapel on August 22. By the end, it was evident to all of us that we all gained something from this class to improve ourselves and our marriages. In addition, we realized that we all had similar challenges and problems. Thanks to Russ and Debra Munk for teaching two of the lessons. Many thanks to Steve and Betty Anderson for their time and efforts in teaching this course.

Primary Appreciation Day

On Wednesday, August 18, Primary children were invited to Primary Appreciation Day at Sister Chang’s home. Sister Chang kept the little children’s attention by handing out Skittles. Each color represents one category. For example, green color was what you like the most in Primary. In order to eat any candy, each child took turn to “talk” about their skittles. After the game, they made appreciation cards to people they appreciated. Sister Chang also prepared sugar cookies for the children to decorate. The activity ended with pizza and watermelon. Each child went home with a full stomach, card, and cookies in hand.
