Lantern Festival

The first ever Lantern Festival celebration in our branch took place tonight in the Kentlands Chapel.  Tommy & Xiaojun Jones were the special emcees for the evening.  Brother Mu welcomed everyone on behalf of the branch presidency.  The program consisted of two solos by George Chang, a pipa solo by Susan Zhang, a dance by a dance group, 2 choir numbers by the Huaxia Chorus, a choir rendition of Big Reunion, and riddles by Sister Jones.

The cultural hall was packed with members and nonmembers alike.  Tonight the kitchen was the responsibility of the brethren, so that the sisters could enjoy the program.  Welcome to the year of the dragon!

Young Women's Photography Activity

New Branch Presidency Counselor

With the imminent departure of the Guo family from our branch, President Holmstead, 1st Counselor in the stake presidency came to release Brother Guo as the first counselor to the branch president.  Tommy Jones was released as 2nd Counselor and sustained as 1st Counselor.  James Mu was called as the new 2nd Counselor.  The Guo family (Michael, Dong Li, and Haoming) shared with us their inspirational testimonies of humility.  Brother Guo conducted the Sacrament Meeting for the last time.  Their family will depart for Tennessee at the end of the month.  Congratulations to Brother Mu in his new calling, and a big thank you to the Guo family.  We wish them the best of success in their new lives.

Where Are They Now? ---> Andrew Belnap

My name is Andrew Belnap (毕长老 ) and I was a missionary in the branch from June to November 2007. My companions were Elder Whitmer and Elder Terry, and I served under President Price and President Mansell.

Since returning from my mission I have been busy studying accounting at BYU, and in April I will graduate with my Masters of Accountancy. I have enjoyed taking each summer to travel and complete internships in Atlanta, Seattle, New York City, and Washington DC.

On August 19, 2011 I married Hannah Teichert in the Oquirrh Mountatin Temple in Utah. She is from Boise, Idaho and is studying anthropology at BYU. We love married life and live in a little house near campus.
Last summer, while we were engaged, we spent several months in Hefei, China teaching English to children in English language centers. Hannah had been there teaching the previous fall, and took me with her when the program asked her to come back. It was the first time I got to go back to China since before my mission!
After I graduate from BYU, I will work for an accounting firm called Grant Thornton in New York City. We will move there in about a year after Hannah graduates in December.

I miss all the members of the Montgomery Chinese Branch and hope to have the chance to come back and visit again soon!
