2016-07-18 Scout Camping Day 2

We are at the end of our first full day of camp. The boys are all playing werewolf right now while I type...John Robert is MC of course. Then Buzz. Sending them to bed soon because we have our Pirate's breakfast tomorrow morning at 6am!

Sotir and Gabe getting ready for rifle shooting.

I couldn't get close to Griffin and Cooper at the archery range. The counselor is very safe. Maybe tomorrow I can get some shots

of them pulling the bows.

Richard trying out some kayaking during open boating tonight.

Friendly game of cards during open period for the Sr. Patrol Leaders.

Open boating on Lake Merriweather.

Gabe working on his submission for the Troop 1300 woodcarving competition Thursday night.

James lugging water back for our cooler.

Brother Merrill teaching the "Totin' Chip" for our newer scouts that don't have the training.

Proud owners of the Totin' chip. They can now use axes, knives and hatchets. Off to camp post tomorrow

to buy some knives! I hope they go for the woodcarving merit badge.

Class time. I think this is before Environmental Science, an Eagle required MB.

Meet our newest Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. He is leading the TCB patrol with Tate. Buzz is Assisting Caleb

with the Hammock patrol.

GIANT Jenga!

Lots of firsts today for the boys!

James and his Dad showed up this morning! Just in time for Environmental Science. Brennan and John L. have been

asking for James since Sunday.

Mmmmmm. Doesn't dinner look good?!

All 17 scouts and 3 adults, present and accounted for.

Really proud of these guys. They have accepted the challenge of doing the mile swim on Thursday with me.

Today, we had to do the first round of qualifying. Swim the 1/4 mile. Tate and JR also qualified, but earlier than us.

Isaiah is really, really liking kayaking. They will be back at it tomorrow for sure.

2016-07-17 Scout Camping Day 1

Troop 1300 parents!

We are here and everyone is doing great. Spent most of the day in orientation and setting up our camp. Luckily, we were able to get our same camp site as last year. Here are a few pics from our first day.

This is the handicraft building. Merit badges like leatherwork, woodcarving, and fingerprinting are done here.

Great shot of Lake Merriweather.

The hammock patrol setting up their site.

Dinner time.

Taco night.

This is the highlight of every first day of our camping trips!! Cathy Sharpe makes us the best baked goods. This year is no exception.

There were so many great treats. I was loving the lemon cake and so did everyone else. ALL GONE in 10 minutes!!

Ended the day with a great game of whiffle ball. This is right before Ty crushed a 3 run homer.

The Olmsted staff puts on an opening show the first night. Big bonfire and all...

Game night, farewell to Sister Liou, and final Family and Marriage Class

In the heat of the summer, the branch hosted a game night in the chapel. There were plenty of board games for young and older. The best action might the sisters playing ping pong with the older sisters. It was a very serious competive game.

Sister Liou has successfully finished her 1.5 year mission serving in our branch and many other wards. From her beginning when she can barely speak Mandarin to when she leaves speaking almost like a fluent native, she's definitely grown spiritually and intellectually! Thank you Sister Liou for your service!

The Herzoff' has taught the married couples of our branch invaluable lessons how to become better wives and husbands. The most valuable word to learn is: forgiveness. We will surely miss them as they have completed teaching us these lessons and they will finish their mission at the beginning of August. Thank you so much!

The students of the class will understand the meaning of this.

Young Men's first scout camp in nearly 20 years

This might be a historic moment in the branch's history. For the first time, maybe in a very long time or ever, we have five young men going to scout camping. Since the combine youth class back in 2014, one of the benefits having more youth is they have more activities that are available. For this instance, since our branch is too small to have an actual scouting program, our young men were able to join the Kentland's YM camping this year. It was a great day!
