Our Chinese New Year celebration was a smashing success this year with over 200 people in attendance at the Washington DC Stake Center. Among the distinguished guests were President Ron Harrison of the Washington DC Stake and President Earl Tingey of the Washington DC Temple. Both were gracious in accepting invitations to say a few words of welcome. The food was delectable and abundant in variety and quantity. After dinner, this year's program opened up with the lion dance featuring the 2 lions, the traditional drum, and the Monkey King. Four girls (Megan Tsai, Violet Zheng, Brennan Wells, and Molly Carbonell) performed the drum dance. The Young women then sang "Flying Free." Mingshu Zhang played on the gourd instrument, after which Susan Zhang played the pipa. The Primary children then recited the Chinese poem, "Little Cow." The youth danced a folk dance called the New Territory Dance. Our youth orchestra played a couple of numbers. A Chinese traditional fashion show followed. The branch choir sang a final number.
Thanks to Florence Tung, our activity committee chairperson for planning and orchestrating the Chinese New Year celebration. Thanks to the many other brothers and sisters for the hours of preparation to make the celebration a success.
