On this historic date, Brother Huasheng Wu was baptized and confirmed by his son Kevin. Kevin himself was baptized on August 19, 2018. At that time the missionaries who taught him were Elders Packer and McGhie, and others. Today, 7 years later to the day, Kevin baptized and confirmed his father a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The missionaries who taught Huasheng were Elders Proctor, Mecham, and Baclayon, among many other Missionaries.
Conducting today's baptism for his first time was Brother Lizhong Huang. Elder Everett Allen served as the pianist, and Joanna Fugal served as the coaster. The prayers today were offered in Cantonese by Brother Koo Yuen and Sister Abbey Zhao. Elder Mecham gave the talk on baptism, while Brother Wesley Way give a talk on receiving the gift of Holy Ghost. Brother Wesley Wei welcomed Brother Wu into the elders quorum, while President Da Zhao welcomed him to the branch in Cantonese.
The highlight of the service, of course, was seeing Kevin baptized and confirm his father. It was a great blessing to see them all dressed in white standing in the water, offering the prayer in Mandarin Chinese, and immersing his father in the water. It has been many years in the coming. And then, as a double blessing, what a sweet tender moment to listen to a sincere heartfelt confirmation and blessings from a son to his father. The choices these two men have made will be forever inscribed in the history of our branch, but more importantly, will bless their family forever.
Congratulations, Brothers Wu!
