2025-11-23 Baptism of Sunnya Yang

Today after the linger longer activity from Elder Proctor and Sister Berges, at 12:30pm the baptismal service for Sunnya Yang was held to an overflowing capacity in the Primary Room. Sunnya and her mom (Emily Liang) and her brother Tristan were supported by the Branch and many members and Primary children of the Kentlands Ward. About 8 Primary children from the Kentlands Ward, Sister Shelton, the Primary President, and Sunnya's teacher and classmates, Sister Markhoff, in addition to many others supported Sunnya today.

Brother Benjamin Tsai conducted the baptism, with Sister Berges and Joanna Fugal serving as the pianist and music leader, respectively. Elder Proctor translated via Zoom. All of the songs today were chosen from the Children's Songbook. After singing "He Sent His Son," Sister Abbey Zhao offered the invocation. Then Sister Alison Fugal shared her thoughts on baptism.

Brother Adam Fugal baptized Sunnya. While they were changing, the congregation sang 4 songs from the Children's Songbook. Sister Cayleigh Zhao spoke on the gift of the Holy Ghost, after which Jason Liu confirmed Sunnya. Sister Mindy Ly welcomed her to Primary, and President Zhao welcomed her to the Branch. Sister Mary Markhoff offered the benediction.

The attendance was very high, with about a dozen folks standing up in the back. We welcome Sunnya as the newest member of the branch.

2025-11-22 Branch Thanksgiving Dinner

The third annual Branch Thanksgiving Dinner took place this year the week before Thanksgiving, unlike the two previous years when it was held the week after Thanksgiving. This time it was held in the cultural hall to allow for more people to attend. Coincidentally, it happened to be the last Saturday before the cultural hall will be transformed into the Kentlands Nativity program, so the timing was perfect.

About 8 round tables and two rectangular tables were set up with beautiful decorations by Sister Frewin and Margery Anderson. In addition to the serving tables, one station was set up to be a reading station. Another table had some block toys for children. Still another table displayed board games for folks to play. The atmosphere was very casual. Everyone enjoyed eating and talking together.

In total about 70 people attended, with many of them being nonmembers and friends. It was a great opportunity for everyone to relax and get to know each other better and to celebrate Thanksgiving early.
