On May 16, 2022, Sister Huayun Zhao peacefully passed away in her sleep after battling cancer. Sister Zhao was born in Shanghai during the Korean War and came to the US in 2009. A woman of many talents, she loved cooking, singing, and dancing. In 2021, she was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We will dearly miss Sister Huayun Zhao.
A memorial service was held for her on June 5, 2022. President Charles Huang conducted the memorial service, with Jason Liu translating. After an opening hymn, "Abide with Me 'Tis Eventide," Sister Sara Huang offered the invocation. Remembrances were shared by Adam Fugal, Xufeng Wu, Ling Xiao, and Sufei Fugal. Susan Liu and Li-Fang Tsai sang a duet there in the chapel, while the Lingkong Women's Chorus performed a song for her by recorded video. After the closing hymn, "Families Can Be Together," Sister Abbey Zhao offered the benediction. Afterwards, the Fugal's prepared a dinner in the cultural hall.
