The first scripture study session was held on February 19, 2015. Initially, it was held at the home of Andrew and Charlotte Shen, but now it is held at the Kentlands Chapel every Friday afternoon from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. Attendance varies, especially if people are traveling, but on the average, excluding missionaries, there are seven or eight people attending the class. The curriculum currently is centered on the Book of Mormon. We have started from the beginning and are working our way through the Book of Mormon week by week. We often use resources from other scriptures and general authorities to support and enhance our study as well. The discussion format is very open to the class. Any question that one person would like to discuss can be brought up and talked about by the entire class. We also continue our discussions online through WeChat, where we broaden the availability of our scripture study to those who cannot attend on Friday afternoon.
The outcomes of the scripture study class have been tremendous. It has provided a way to help members develop a better habit of studying from the scriptures daily, and the Friday class has offered a safe environment where people can ask questions and receive some answers. It has also provided a way for members to be with in contact with each other more throughout the week. My feelings toward the study sessions has been mostly gratitude. I love to learn about the scriptures, and I love to hear others share their feelings and testimonies of the scriptures. I hope that the class can continue and become even more robust and self-sustainable.
